How GLP-1s Work

Genetic, biological, and environmental factors can often make weight loss more difficult. GLP-1s can:

Check mark

Decrease food noise

The GLP-1 hormone signals fullness to the brain. Medications restore that connection between your brain and gut so you don’t think about food 24/7.

Check mark

Increase satiety

GLP-1s tell the stomach to empty more slowly, which leaves you feeling fuller for longer than you would with natural GLP-1 levels.

Check mark

Support healthy habits

With GLP-1 meds managing appetite and cravings, users can focus on behavior change—with guidance from WW—to succeed.

Frequently asked questions

No. Saxenda (liraglutide) and Wegovy (semaglutide) are both GLP-1 medications that are FDA-approved specifically for the treatment of obesity.

Results depend on which medication you’re prescribed and your medical history. Typically, patients on a GLP medication will lose 10-20% of their weight.

Currently, there are no generic options for GLP-1s. If your insurance does not cover a GLP medication, your Care Team will help you identify other affordable options.

The most common side effects are nausea, constipation, or other gastrointestinal discomfort. Your Sequence Care Team will advise you on the best ways to minimize side effects.

GLP-1s are indicated for long-term use, much like other medications to treat chronic conditions. The effects stop immediately if you stop taking the medication, and it is likely in most cases that some weight regain will occur. As you reach your healthy goal weight, you should discuss with your clinician about adjusting your maintenance dose if necessary.
