Hi From Di in the heart of olde St. John\'s, Newfoundland

Welcome to Di Herb Lady's Garden in the heart of olde St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada! They call me the Herb Lady because I have had a home based business called HERBS AND GARDEN THINGS at 55 Springdale Street.

Originally a farm gal from Nashville, Tennessee, I immigrated to Newfoundland in 1980 after traveling in 43 countries. I fell in love with this wildly beautiful island and its people. I have a B.S. degree from Middle Tennessee State University with a major in English and minors in speech , drama and education. I now live in a century-old house in downtown St. John's, Newfoundland. A vacant lot was my garden's beginnings....only a huge Maple tree and weeds grew here when I arrived. I have planted 23 trees in a small area so now have a very shady garden . With the addition of multiple water gardens and a greenhouse, my visitors say that HERBS AND GARDEN THINGS is an oasis in the center of a busy city. The birds, Barkis and Eva (my Pekeinese Fur Family), my friends, my customers AND I enjoy the tranquility of the herb garden. I opened my small home-based business in 1995 out of an old woodshed in my garden that faced onto Springdale Street (across from The Delta Hotel). I have a special interest in culinary and medicinal herbs so grow an ever increasing variety for public display and herbal education. I make some herbal medicines from the plants that I grow in the garden. I encourage my customers to take the pinch, smell and taste tour of the garden.

In past lives, I have been a teacher, entertainer, bartender, florist, waitress, sales lady, world traveler and lover of nature and beauty. Perhaps all of the above are a part of my garden.

Hmmmmmmmm...... Smile!    Add a sprinkle of imagination, a healthy curiosity, the challenge of an ugly vacant lot and dash of humor to a liberal assortment of wild, wonderful fragrant herbs, fruits, flowers and the sounds of water.... MIX WELL!  Result:.... MY GARDEN! Do sign my guest book and let me know where you are visiting from! I am a friendly soul! :)

I rent three rooms in my home to visitors to St John's so you may see folk moving around on the deck and in the garden. If you bookmark me, you can check the weather via my live webcam. Many do. :) Enjoy!

I apoligise to my viewers for the ignorance of spammers like the idiot from New York who is so rude as to deface my guest book. I am reporting him to Camarades. Please do so also, if he is spaming your site. This sad that these folk have so little respect for others!

I came to your oasis before and it still looks as peaceful at night! I teach online in a big way and was wondering if you were going to run an online training avatar with your course? Mail out packages of herbs and seeds for the interactive part, and have a recipe or two for for taste part.! And slides/interactives/voice/text, etc.. Any experiences to share out there?

Hi there, your garden looks like paradize! I'm very much interested in medicinal herbs (ayurveda) and looking forward to your online course.
